org-trello – 2-way sync org & trello

Share

For some time now, I wanted to learn Emacs-lisp some more than I already did. As I dayly use emacs, I think it was the logical course of action.

And, as I:

  • already use org-mode a lot (even for blogging this very moment)
  • kept encountering trello for team organisation
  • don’t like to duplicate informations
  • can’t expect everybody to try and learn emacs and org-mode
  • trello exposes a public API

I thought “what the hell, let’s do this!”. And here is the result: org-trello, an org-mode minor-mode to permit the synchronization between a trello board and an org-mode file (and vice versa).

1 Demo!

1.1 Synchronize one entity

1.2 Synchronize one complete entity and move entity according to status

1.3 Synchronize from org-mode file to trello

1.4 Synchronize from trello to org-mode file

1.5 Create board and sync

1.6 Setup org-mode file to work with one trello board

1.7 Install org-trello

1.8 Setup key and token

  1. Excellent !
    Thx for sharing this .
(Btw I think that the 1.3 video is not what it should be ;) )

  2. Thanks!

The 1.3 video may be badly entitled indeed.

This is meant to setup the org-mode file to work with a trello board.
This is a pre-requisite for the next actions.

  4. First off, I think this is great because my organization wants to use Trello but I’ve already been using emacs org mode and I don’t want to duplicate TODOs. I’ve set up org-trello and it works fine for the Welcome Board (I can sync both ways and do everything I’ve tried to). However, on a board that I did not create but which I’ve been given access I cannot sync from or to the trello board.

In emacs I see: ‘Requesting sync org buffer from trello board – done!’ but then nothing happens. I thought this might be because I didn’t have admin access but even after becoming an admin of the board instead of just a member I still get the same messages.

Any ideas on what is going wrong?

  5. Hi,

    > First off, I think this is great because my organization wants to use Trello but I’ve already been using emacs org mode and I don’t want to duplicate TODOs.

    Great.

    > I’ve set up org-trello and it works fine for the Welcome Board (I can sync both ways and do everything I’ve tried to)

    Ok.

    > However, on a board that I did not create but which I’ve been given access I cannot sync from or to the trello board.

So you installed the credentials for that board in the buffer?

    > In emacs I see: ‘Requesting sync org buffer from trello board – done!’ but then nothing happens

That’s because the construction of the requests to be executed to trello is done but the actual requests execution is not.

    > I thought this might be because I didn’t have admin access but even after becoming an admin of the board instead of just a member I still get the same messages.

No org-trello just needs read/write access.

    > Any ideas on what is going wrong?

No precise idea on what’s going wrong.
    I need more insight :D

Can you please report an issue on github – https://github.com/ardumont/org-trello/issues/new – providing:
    - org-trello version
    - marmalade/melpa install?
    - did you install the trello board on the org-buffer (`C-c o l` or M-x org-trello/install-board-and-lists-ids as explained https://github.com/ardumont/org-trello#bindings)?
    - your full org-buffer anonymised (for reproduction, dummy data instead of your real IDs, etc…)

    Cheers,
